In Part II, we looked at breaking down faces into very simple shapes. This time around, we’re going to start carving some features into those shapes.
And that’s how I want you to approach this process. Although you’re working on paper, what you’re doing should feel more akin to sculpting. This may sound like a mental leap too far at this point. But, trust me, getting to grips with thinking in three dimensions now is going to stand you in good stead as we move through the stages of creating a caricature.
And adopting this mindset should help you avoid one of the most basic mistakes that I see caricaturists make. Even some of the top-drawer crowd-pleasers in the professional arena are guilty of this cardinal sin…
